L1-P water softener and filter - London

Hi,

I'm thinking about purchasing an L1-P at some point over the next 12 months and have a query over water softening.

I live in south London (very hard water) and would like to fit a water softener to my flat for all water (bathroom, kitchen etc) for the obvious benefits you get from having softened water for washing etc.

My question is, if I get the softener, will the L1-P also be ok with softened water with no further filtering, or should I also add in some sort of carbon filter for the L1-P to remove any other impurities? If so, are there any reasonably priced filter solutions you recommend, id rather a decent sized unit under the sink than a small in-line one like the ones you sell.

Thanks

Patrick

  • In this folder you can see the filter setup I have:

A generic 'softener' for the entire household would probably take out the carbonate that could form sediments in the washing machine etc but it would not improve / take out the taste of chlorine etc.
  • hi patrick

whole of house softening/reverse osmosis is not something we get involved in, but i completely agree that it is the way to go

i would start with google, or failing that a local plumbing merchant like plumbing world - it is a niche business in itself and we are not qualified to advise on it

    kind regards

  • Thanks for this, I will look those up.

Thanks. I was just curious what and if the people on this forum used if anything.
  • This probably isn't that helpful but in currently living in east London which has ridiculously hard water and running an L1-P. I'm using a brita aquella large filter and there are copious water marks on the machine so it is definitely not cutting it. I've just realised it has a bypass function effectively letting some hard water through so I've just disabled that. I'm waiting for the whole boiler to recycle which obviously will take a while at home and I'll update you!

  • It seems to me that a reverse osmosis is probably the way to go for London but I'll see if I can avoid it

  • At the recent Horecava trade show in Amsterdam I had a chat with Ronny Billemon. He is a coffee enthusiast and his business is selling water filters. Later this month he will give a presentation about coffee & water in a city nearby so I plan to go see that.

I use a different water filter system so I have no business interest and I provide his contact info in case you want his view on your filtration options:
